Cathinones, also known as benzoylethanamines, are a class of psychoactive substances structurally related to amphetamines and derived from the khat plant. They are found in the leaves of the Catha edulis plant and have been chewed for their stimulant effects for centuries in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

The core compound, cathinone, is a beta-keto analogue of amphetamine. It was first isolated and characterized in the 1970s, leading to the synthesis of various derivatives, which have gained attention for their recreational use and presence in so-called "bath salts."

Cathinones act as central nervous system stimulants, causing the release of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Their effects can include euphoria, increased alertness and energy, reduced appetite, and a sense of empathy and sociability. However, they can also lead to adverse effects such as paranoia, anxiety, panic attacks, and in extreme cases, hallucinations and psychosis.

The legality of cathinones varies by country, with many having been classified as controlled substances due to their potential for abuse and harm.

Here are 30 examples of cathinones, which include both naturally occurring and synthetic derivatives:

  1. Cathinone (the parent compound)
  2. Methcathinone
  3. Ethcathinone
  4. Buphedrone
  5. Mephedrone (4-MMC)
  6. MDPV (Methylenedioxypyrovalerone)
  7. Alpha-PVP (Flakka)
  8. Butylone
  9. Ethylone
  10. Methedrone
  11. Flephedrone
  12. Pentedrone
  13. Pentylone
  14. 3-MMC (3-Methylmethcathinone)
  15. 4-MEC (4-Methylethcathinone)
  16. 4-BMC (4-Bromomethcathinone)
  17. 4-CMC (4-Chloromethcathinone)
  18. 4-EMC (4-Ethylmethcathinone)
  19. 4-FMC (4-Fluoromethcathinone)
  20. 3,4-DMMC (3,4-Dimethylmethcathinone)
  21. Naphyrone (Naphthylpyrovalerone)
  22. Eutylone
  23. Dibutylone
  24. NEB (N-Ethylbuphedrone)
  25. N-Ethylhexedrone (Hexen)
  26. α-PHiP (α-Pyrrolidinoisohexaphenone)
  27. MD-PHP (Methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinohexiophenone)
  28. 4-CEC (4-Chloroethcathinone)
  29. 4-CDC (4-Chlorodimethcathinone)
  30. 4-CL-PVP (4-Chloro-α-Pyrrolidinovalerophenone)

The synthetic cathinones are particularly notorious for their presence in the illicit drug market, where they are often sold as "legal highs" or "research chemicals" to circumvent drug laws. Their unregulated status and the variability in their chemical composition contribute to significant risks, including unknown toxicity and potential for overdose.

The study and regulation of cathinones continue to evolve as new derivatives are synthesized and as more is understood about their pharmacology and toxicology. Public health initiatives often focus on education and harm reduction to address the challenges posed by these substances.

Like Coca Leaves, the Khat Plant could be used like Ephedra, or Caffeine, it is the Purification and Isomerization, and Tinkering as it is called in the Analogue Act. But, there are Legal Substances that could be looked at, and someone could do it Right in some kind of Bug Poison, or Possibly like a Lotion or something. The DEA makes these Illegal when they Start Arresting a bunch of People with them.
